Who we are
The Just Transition Institute Greece – JTIG is a non-profit civil partnership with the main goal of implementing scientific activities in support of the effort of the affected areas to the developmental transformation during the period of lignite phase out. It was founded in 2020 in Kozani by people who live and work professionally in the wider territory of Western Macedonia. The regular and non-regular members of the Institute together with its honorary members wish to take an active part in shaping the social, environmental and economic perspective of the affected areas, for a sustainable future during and after the transition period.
The Vision of the Institute is: Assistance & support to institutions, companies, employees, unemployed and citizens in the transition areas that face the greatest challenges of their modern history.
Its’ aims are to support, promote & implement actions towards sustainable development during the period of transformation & regeneration of the economy, mainly in the areas of the country that are in the process of just transition, after their gradual complete lignite phase out (Western Macedonia and Megalopolis).
The individual targeting of JTIG mainly concerns interventions of economic development pillars such as green energy, smart agriculture, sustainable tourism, small industry/ artisanship and industry, the digital economy and of course the education – training of those who lose their jobs, but also of the unemployed or underemployed workers. The dynamic activation of the human resources of the transition areas is also a separate goal.
